Using the characters from our new favorite book, we made a matching game. Because reading is a meaning-making process, having many different experiences with the characters helps readers and listeners tell what they remember. This activity helped us in our retelling process while enabling the children to play a role in constructing stories. This active participation with stories helps build language development, comprehension and an interest in books and learning to read.
