Count Your Tail Feathers-Morning

To practice addition and subtraction, we rolled a die to determine how many feathers to add or take away from our Thanksgiving turkeys. It was a fun way to get prepped up for Turkey Day while improving our small motor skills and brilliant math brains.

Poppity Pop-Morning

Popcorn crowding all around,

Hot air blows them round and round,

Yellow corn kernels poppity pop,

One after another, when will they stop?

Whirling, swirling the popcorn pops,

In a bowl they quickly drop,

Fluffy popcorn, grab a bunch,

Light and tasty, eat them, CRUNCH!

Corn Study-Morning

When Europeans arrived in the Americas, the natives taught them how to grow corn. It was a long process! In April, grain was planted in rows that looked like little hills. In May, the hills were weeded and the grass was pulled away. By June, leaves and stems were growing and looking good. Underneath the leaves and close to the stem grew the corn. By fall, the corn was ripe and ready for their Thanksgiving dinner table. Believe it or not, we grow corn this way today!

Happy Halloween!-Morning

There's nothing like a Halloween gathering that includes pumpkins, popcorn, costumes, and a spooky game or two! We are definitely ready to trick or treat!

Size Up a Pumpkin-Morning

As children develop an understanding of measurement, they move through predictable stages. Their first understanding requires them to compare things directly to see what is "bigger" and "littler." Eventually they will see that finding tools to help them measure allows them to be more accurate. These kinds of experiences along with questions and conversations prepare children to work with standard units and tools.
