Besides simply enjoying a mini slice of pumpkin pie at our pie party, we tried to enhance our student's interest in math by creating a graph. This gave us an opportunity to represent and communicate important math relationships like equality, the concept of more/less, and the associative or grouping property in addition. Basically, what we are teaching our students is that the best way to enjoy math is with a tasty treat on the side!
