Pattern blocks can be used to challenge students to answer questions about size, shape, proportions and their properties. In this activity we used pattern blocks and pattern cards to learn spacial relations. This challenged the students to perceive the spacial relationship of the shapes in the design and then reproduce them. Spacial relationship perception is one of the foundation skills necessary for recognizing and writing letters. For most of these students, this was their first experience with pattern blocks. We were very impressed with their creativity and ability to complete the task!
