We used our small motor skills and made a beaded necklace to help us retell the story of Brown Bear. Because reading is a meaning-making process, retellings help readers and listeners tell what they remember. Retelling also enables children to play a role in constructing stories. This active participation with stories helps build language development, comprehension and an interest in books and learning to read.
